Spinal Cord Injury

We are one of only 18 Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems in the U.S., which means you’re at a hospital leading the nation in treatment and research that improves long-term outcomes for individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI).
The NORSCIS (Northeast Ohio Regional Spinal Cord Injury System) Program at MetroHealth is focused on generating new knowledge to improve the lives of individuals with traumatic spinal cord injury. Our focus is simple: Get people with SCI back to life. Whether that’s getting back to work or school, participating in the community or returning to the activities you love, we’re here to help.

SCI Special Programs
- Spasticity management to help patients regain muscle control
- Neurological prosthetics that restore hand, lung, bladder and lower limb function
- Radiofrequency ablation and spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulators for pain relief
- Ongoing clinical trials of new treatments that may improve your quality of life
Outpatient Spine Care
Once you are discharged, you can continue to receive outpatient care at one of our outpatient rehabilitation facilities. Outpatient therapy, research studies and education are all part of the services offered.
